My daughters and husband and I LOVE this place. My 3 year old asks for it all the time and gets so excited to go and use the play kitchen. Great bread, love that it is organic too. The owners are amazing, kind, lovely people and the other staff is also great.

The Little Red Hen is a pinnacle of small businesses in action! We loved spending time here, while in town, and the locals speak very highly of this bakery. Not only that, but they have the best gluten free scones we have ever had ANYWHERE! Definitely worth the stop on a morning in Salida.

I have bought from this bakery many times over the past year. The bread is always phenomenal, the people working in the back are super friendly, I don't even care that it's expensive. I don't mind paying more for something that helps local businesses and the town economy. The man who I'm assuming is the owner is just plain rude. I keep going back because the bread is so good but today is probably my last time. Today that gentleman physically grabbed me and pushed me out of his way (the restaurant was busy, I was standing where he instructed me to wait for my bread order) to chase after a customer out the front door. He didn't say "excuse me." He never said "sorry." He didn't even look at my face, yet he somehow felt comfortable enough to manhandle me. That to me just shows a lack of respect/common courtesy and I won't be rewarding them with my money anymore. It's a shame because the employees in the back bakery area are always so sweet.

If you can go for the brick-oven baked bagels on Saturday mornings, it's definitely worth it! If you can't, it's still worth a trip for the scones and cookies. Super friendly service in a locally-owned and operated business.

Personal favorite is the chili cheese bread hot out of the oven but that is a Saturday special.

The best....a must stop if you're in Salida. Coffee, bottled drinks and breakfast items too. Buy enough bread to supply your Colorado trail hike and feel like super human.
