When you come to this campground, the views and grounds are amazing! The views of Chalk Cliffs at the base of Mt. Antero are breathtaking. Enjoy yourself, but be sure to come prepared for campground hosts that are the worst we've ever met. They were criticizing families for children riding bikes, people driving over the speed limit when entering campground from the highway and obnoxious other "landlord-style" type of violations. This campground host family was specifically from South Dakota, so beware if you are unfortunate to have them when making reservations!
Loved the scenery and layout of the campground, however.........be aware of a certain couple from South Dakota if you're ever unfortunate enough to have them as hosts. As others have said, they are what I call the "campground host Nazis". They take their duties way too seriously. We (and several others in camp) were scolded practically every day for one thing or another. From barely going too fast along the access rd, or having a bit of leftover firewood debris/bark next to fire pit, wrong type/size of wood (I think because they strongly advise you to buy theirs at the host site) or the nightly town cryer type call for quiet time. Final straw was when me and a new arrival (who was scheduled to get our site and we were gonna moving across the way) decided to swap to keep from making us move. Mr & Mrs host Nazi visited and sternly asked why we hadn't moved to our newly assigned site, they kinda came unhinged that we didn't run this decision by them first. Had two days left in our 10 day trip and decided to eat the cost of the last two and went down to the private campground Chalk Creek instead of dealing with those wackos anymore.
If you are planning on camping here, please reconsider. We just spent our Memorial Day weekend there and we could not have been more disappointed in our experience. The facilities and views were very nice and that area itself has quite a bit to offer, but the way we were treated by the camp host was horrible. She yelled at us the moment we pulled in for not having our dog on his leash, literally seconds after we got out of the car. She would make her rounds at least three times every day and each day we were afraid she would find something wrong with our campsite. To make matters worse, the Ranger who was responsible for this campsite also harassed us the first night we were there and threatened to give us a citation because the fire (we soaked with about 3 gallons of water) was "too warm" to leave unattended on our 10 minute walk around the site. Overall we could not have been more disappointed with our time there.
